Call for Expressions of Interest to host the 2027 AALL Conference

The Association for Academic Language and Learning (AALL) invites Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from tertiary institutions to host the next AALL Conference.

The AALL Conference is a major professional forum for academic language and learning practitioners, researchers, educators, and allied professionals. It provides opportunities to share research, showcase practice, build networks, and engage with key issues shaping academic language and learning in higher education.

 Some key information:

The AALL conference is a biennial event, held in odd years (2023, 2025, 2027…). It is usually held over a minimum of 3 days (including optional workshops) and ideally would take place in mid-November due to potential clashes with other conferences in late November, such as ASCILITE, although dates can be negotiated in consultation with the Executive. It will include, where possible, an associated social event (conference dinner, cocktail party, etc) and will also host the AALL AGM.

Expressions of Interest should briefly outline:

    • Host institution details and key contacts
    • Rationale for hosting and alignment with AALL’s mission
    • Proposed venue(s) and indicative timing
    • Institutional support (this can be in principle support from your supervisor/manager at this early stage) and logistical/technological capacity
    • Optional initial vision or theme

An EOI template is available for download HERE.

If more than one proposal of comparable merit is received, an AALL conference subcommittee will review proposals and take into consideration the following points (in no particular order of priority):

    • a State/Territory/Country that has not recently hosted
    • proposals from institutions that have not previously hosted an AALL conference
    • proposed conference theme that has wide relevance
    • strategies for encouraging new researchers
    • capacity to host conference (institutional support)

 Support from AALL

The successful host institution will work closely with the AALL Executive and Conference Lead, with guidance provided on governance, budgeting, and program development.
