Talking AALL is a podcast series brought to you by the AALL PD Committee. The series is an exciting vox pop initiative – short 10-15 minute chats with AALL people about topics, issues, current events and questions relevant to the academic advising community.
Tune in throughout the year as we speak to a range of interesting people – be ready, you might be next!
In this, the first edition of Talking AALL, we speak to Andrew Kelly, President of AALL about the first months in the role, some of the challenges and things that are exciting about it, and what opportunities there are more broadly for the Academic advising industry.
In the second edition of the Talking AALL podcast, Sue Gollagher from James Cook University speaks to Kevan Jones, Learning Advisor at The University of Queensland (UQ). In the conversation, Kevan shares his experience of supporting students with ADHD. He discusses the ADHD coaching program at UQ, offers advice to Learning Advisors, and shares his thoughts about future developments in the space.
In the third edition of the Talking AALL podcast, and as a follow up to the CIS presentation Fellowships: recognising ALL educators teaching and learning expertise delivered in March 2025 and available from our CIS catalogue page, Sue Gollagher from James Cook University speaks to a group of ALL educators who have completed a HERDSA (Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia) or an Advance HE (Higher Education Academy, UK) Fellowship.
In this conversation, they discuss why they chose to do a fellowship, the benefits they experienced, and challenges they faced. They also offer advice to other ALL educators who are considering applying for a fellowship.
Thank you to Adam Gall (University of Sydney), Thuy Dinh (University of Western Sydney), Jessica Florent (Australian Catholic University), and Mei Li (James Cook University) for giving us their time and sharing their insights into the experience.
