does anyone know of good resources for oral presentations? I'm often asked this question, but I'm mainly familiar with a small number of videos, many of which are now quite outdated. I'm sure there must be dozens of great DVDs, etc. which people are using to help students develop their seminar presentation skills. Please list them here for all to share ... Many thanks

TED presentations
We've found that the TED presentations (www.ted.com) can be quite useful for highlighting aspects of good presentations.

You may find this tutorial from Monash useful:

Re: TED presentations
This looks great Chris. I havent finished poking around in TED yet.
So far it seems like a site full of sample speeches that teachers can use as a basis for the design of their own activities . . .
If this is so - How do you usually exploit the individual speeeches?

visuals for scientific talks
have you seen this material?
Michael Alley's "Rethinking the design of presentation slides"
http://www.scribd.com/doc/2081759/rethinking-scientific-presentations-psu
(hope I've done the URL link thing properly)
It's a 12-slide PPT show that practises what it preaches.
Even tho all the examples are science/technology stuff, I think it could be applied to many fields
It's the best material I've seen for design of visuals, and there's a reference list on the last slide which I'm about to follow up, including some journal articles co-authored by the same guy and also a book . When I recommended the website to a colleague from Biochem she told me that she was already using his slides and that she had recently used stuff from a book by Alley to teach writing skills with her 2nd yr biochem class.
