Hi All
Is there anyone interested in moving the benchmarking project forward via a Carrick grant? My ideas - embryonic at the moment and hoping for input from you - are these:
1. Apply for Carrick Priority projects program ( this program lists benchmarking as a priority). Please see especially section 3.3 PRIORITY 3: PEER REVIEW of the attached PDF
and also
http://www.carrickinstitute.edu.au/carr ... june07.pdf
2. Do this as a consortium of universities with at least 1 city and 1 regional campus from each state on the project team.
3. Each Project team would focus on ( x number) of most common AALL practices- identified in the recent benchmarking project 'towards benchmarking' http://dev.uow.edu.au/cedir-dev/Projects/AALL/
4. Gather national and international research about these practices + engage with those units in the team member states who do these practices in some in-depth case studies in order to identify contextual, procedural features and outputs of successful practices- NOT BEST PRACTICE (I think this is a very problematic idea).
5. The information gathered would assist us to be reflexive/reflective practitioners informed by current research and practice about a range of current ALL practices and able to engage in informed peer review when we are required to for the purposes of AUQA, institutional benchmarking, or for promotions or awards.
6. Extend and update the current database (the CD produced as part of the Towards Benchmarking' Project , see http://dev.uow.edu.au/cedir-dev/Projects/AALL/ ) to accommodate the information and; develop a user-friendly and password protected interface for the database.
Team member universities would need the written approval of the DVC or equivalent. Please let me know what you think and whether your university might be interested. I need to put in an expression of interest to UoW by Thursday 7th this week. I'll go ahead and work on this and send you what I have but in the meantime please jump into the discussion if you are interested in being involved. The expression of interest can be modified and will need to be fleshed out much further for the actual application to Carrick
best wishes and looking forward to some fruitful and enjoyable collaborations

benchmarking
catching up as fast as I can .....
applying for a Carrick grant to further the ALL benchmarking project is an excellent idea. Count me and UTS in, if it's not too late

update benchmarking Carrick
Hi All
Thanks for your emails and I am still on the case but I am truly flying by the seat of pants here!! Such bad timing for a grant application - anyway the latest is that the most appropriate place for us appears to be a Carrick priorities project. And the most appropriate priority seems to be peer review. I am currently drafting the application along the lines of my first post on this site and will send it to you asap - I have to have it into my uni by the end of the week and they will provide feedback so there will be lots of chances for changes to the doc. The application asks for a single uni to lead the project and I am investigating further how we might be able to have more than 1 -a consortium would be better I think for many reasons.
I'll be back in touch by end of this week or early next at latest.
cheers

Benchmarking
same here Bronwyn (re busy) - you may be able to use bits of the AALL grant application?? priority grant applications are due with uts on 18 April. I see no issue with 1 institution leading, as long as others (how many confirmed ones are there?) looking fwd to seeing draft 1.
PS: perhaps eMails of those interested rather than 'advertising' on public forum a competetitive grant application would be safer??
cheers
