Guess what! SkillSoup has just been announced as the winner of an international podcasting in education award!
We won Fordham University’s Podcast for Teachers Best Overall Educational Podcast Award in the Higher Education Category. Check out the article in ANU's newsletter On Campus http://info.anu.edu.au/mac/Newsletters_and_Journals/On_Campus/096PP_2007/11PP_June2/_skillsoup.asp
This highly regarded prize, recognised by the international podcasting in education community, is awarded for
Fordham University judges Dr Kathy King and Mr Mark Gura said this about SkillSoup in their own podcast, Podcast for Teachers:
"This is a very comprehensive podcast that’s really all about how to succeed in being a university student … That they would produce this body of resources for students is a great example of using the medium. … The value is there in so many ways: Anybody going to any university can take advantage of what these people in Australia have done." (Mark Gura, Outreach Programs, Regional Educational Technology Center, Fordham University)
"These are teaching skills, these are student learning skills, and what they [the SkillSoup team] are really working towards are the adult learning skills for incoming students and returning students. A fabulous series that can be used effectively for returning students in any setting for higher ed. … These really are those skills that are going to help somebody go from required education to the next step of higher ed. … This was very, very well done, well produced, well done, good content, good overall conception of what they’re doing with the whole series and that’s why it got the award." (Kathy King, Director of the Regional Educational Technology Center, Fordham University)

SkillSoup wins international podcasting award!
Thanks, Sasha! I hope forum members might have a look at what were doing and like it. SkillSoup has been great fun putting together and now we have quite a large body of audios for ALL advisers to hook into. What I like best about SkillSoup (radio show, interviews, tips) is that we're giving access to amazing, real-live-human-inspired, and real-live-human-mediated, stuff that students simply can’t get in a handout.
We're able to draw on people's tremendous experience and knowledge and practice by knowing which questions to ask. And we're collecting some stunning material!
People should check out our interview pages, especially http://academicskills.anu.edu.au/podcasts/interviews/interview_downloads.php to see what's available for students: the breadth and depth of what we're trying to achieve.
Our other SkillSoup pages are the 'radio show' of 13 episodes at http://academicskills.anu.edu.au/podcasts/skillsoup.php and our 'tips' page at http://academicskills.anu.edu.au/podcasts/tips/tips_downloads.php
Jump in the bowl, AALL-dudes and see what's in the mix!
Cheers,
meg.
