Hello AALLs,
I'll soon be conducting a professional development session on "Supporting English Language Proficiency in Vocational Learning" to business instructors in our diploma of business, and I was hoping that the AALL community might be able to offer me some ideas or inspiration on the topic. The objectives of the PD sessions will be something like:
1. To analyse and discuss the case for attending to language proficiency development of NESB learners in Australian higher learning
2. To reflect on the English language development needs of our learners
3. To discuss the supportive methodologies/techniques/strategies currently used by faculty
4. To acquire additional techniques and strategies that support English language proficiency in higher learning
Has anyone conducted a similar session somewhere? What did you do? How did you do it?
I should add that the DEEWR document has been the catalyst for this PD session - it's given everyone a clear imperative. But the issue now for us is working out the 'how', and the PD session is a part of that.
So, if anyone has anything to contribute, I'd be most appreciative : )
