With the help of the John Grierson Grant I am happy to announce the New Members' Roundtable which will be held at the 2007 AALL Conference "How Do We Communicate?" at La Trobe University from November 29-30.
The New Members' Roundtable is designed to introduce new members (myself included) to each other and to the profession, and to provide a forum for an introductory discussion of issues relevant to AALL professionals. To facilitate this I have selected Kerry O'Regan's LAS 2005 conference paper entitled "Theorising What We Do: Defamiliarise the University", which is available on PDF at:
http://academicskills.anu.edu.au/las200 ... oregan.pdf
My intention is that new members attending the Roundtable read this piece so that we can effectively discuss some issues from a common basis of understanding. If you are a new member of AALL I would like to warmly invite you to the Roundtable and hope you enjoy O'Regan's piece as preparation for it. I found it a thoughtful and stimulating paper and I hope you do too.
If you are interested in attending the roudtable, please respond so I can have an idea of numbers! If you have any queries please don't hesitate to email me, otherwise I look forward to meeting you at La Trobe in November.
Kind Regards
Chad Habel
