Meeting of Directors and Coordinators: AALL Conference 2011

Dear colleagues,

Your participation in this forum is warmly invited. Please use this forum to contribute agenda items and discuss ideas in preparation for the upcoming ALL Directors and Coordinators meeting.

This meeting will take place from 2.30-4.30pm on Wednesday 23 November in the Bradley Forum, Hawke Building, City West Campus, University of South Australia. This is during the last session of pre-conference workshops at the Bienniel AALL Conference 2011 'Forging New Directions in ALL'.

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss and address issues of importance to ALL educators to be taken up locally or by the AALL Excecutive Committee. This forum provides a space for raising issues. The focus at the meeting itself is how to move forward on the issues that have been raised.

Below is a preliminary list of issues to be included as part of the agenda. Please add your ideas to this forum.

1. How do we assess what we do? Where are our gaps? How can we improve?

2. How well do we communicate what we do? How can we build on our strengths?

3. How important is collaboration within and beyond our unis? How can we improve?

4. What are the big issues within our institutions and how can we address these, e.g.
-- encouraging participation of'at risk' students
-- assessing and addressing English language issues (using PELAs, embedding, etc)
-- Developing undergraduate research skills
-- Catering for postgraduate coursework students
-- Using social media for educational purposes
-- Informing students about academic integrity
???

the list is a long one

the list looks great, but a bit too long for 2 hours, I think. I know we covered a lot of ground in Sydney, but didn't we have longer for that meeting. Is this a starting list that we will narrow down?
