University students are frequently recommended to make use of additional learning support resources, for example, in their PELA results or assignment feedback. However, many students fail to act or seek support. In this session, we will discuss the barriers and enablers to student uptake of support and what institutions can do to remove those barriers and promote the enablers. This includes both barriers for the student (e.g. competing priorities, misinformation) and institutional barriers (e.g. policy, resources, staff attitudes).
Speaker Profile
Tracy Ware is a Senior Learning Adviser at Edith Cowan University where she manages the PELA program and advises on English language entry standards and curriculum. Her PhD research has examined the students’ attitudes to the PELA itself and the usefulness of the feedback received.
This is an Western Australian AALL event, but livestreaming will be available for anyone who cannot attend in person.
